National Visa

Documents Required

All documents must be submitted in English and dated within 30 days of the application. Original documents must be presented for verification, along with photocopies for submission. 

General Requirements

• Completed Visa Application Form – signed by the applicant
• Valid Passport – with minimum 8 months validity, not older than 10 years
• Passport Photo – 1 recent photo meeting ICAO standards
• Full Passport Copy

Proof of Relationship

• Family Reunification Certificate – issued by the Expatriates Unit, Identità
• Original Marriage Certificate – legalised and translated to English by an official translator (if applicable)
• Original Birth Certificate – legalised and translated to English by an official translator (if applicable)
• Parent’s Consent Letter – in cases where a minor is travelling with one parent only

Proof of Finance

• Recent bank statements of the applicant or sponsor showing sufficient funds to cover living expenses
• Sponsor’s employment contract, salary slips, or other relevant financial documents (if applicable)

Proof of Travel

• Provisionally Booked Flight Tickets – complete itinerary showing applicant’s name, date of travel, and transit stops (preferably outside Schengen area)

Proof of Accommodation

• Declaration of Proof – if hosted by a sponsor, signed and stamped by a local lawyer or notary; must include host’s ID, utility bill, and address
• Lease Agreement – signed by both parties, stating address, rent, duration, and list of household members
• Hotel Booking – minimum of 14 consecutive nights from date of arrival in Malta (if applicable)

Medical and Travel Insurance

• Must be valid for the entire Schengen area
• Minimum coverage of €30,000
• Must include applicant’s name, surname, and passport number
• Must guarantee validity for non-applicable residents

Additional Documents for Minor Applicants

• Copy of Minor’s Passport
• Copies of Both Parents’ Passports
• Legalised and Translated Birth Certificate
• Consent Letter from the non-travelling parent (if applicable)

Sponsor’s Documentation

• Maltese Residence Card and Passport Copy of the sponsor
• Invitation Letter confirming intention to host and support the family member(s)

Important Information

• All documents must be submitted in English or accompanied by an official English translation.
• Incomplete or incorrectly filled applications may result in processing delays or rejection.

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets the following requirements:

Background

• Taken against a light-coloured background (white or off-white)
• Facial features must be clearly visible with contrast against the background

Quality & Composition

• High resolution with the face in clear focus
• Full face visible:
  • Neutral expression (non-smiling)
  • No sunglasses or tinted lenses
  • No hats, caps, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or ethnic reasons

Format

• Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print only)
• Photograph must be securely attached (glued) to the visa application form

Important

If the photograph does not meet the above specifications, the application will be deemed incomplete, and the applicant may be asked to retake the photo at the application centre.
