Documents Required
All documents listed below are mandatory. Each applicant must submit their own set of documents.
Important: Most documents required for your visa application must be recent and dated within the last 30 days at the time of submission. Ensure all paperwork meets this requirement to avoid delays or rejection.
General Requirements
Visa Application Form
- Fully completed, signed, and dated.
Photograph
- One passport-size colour photograph printed on photo paper with a white background.
- No digital retouching allowed.
Passport
- Valid for at least 1 year from the intended date of travel.
- Must contain two blank pages.
- Photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport.
- Passports issued more than 10 years ago will not be accepted.
- Applicants must leave their passports at the Consulate during processing.
UK Residency
- Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
Proof of Study / Training / Internship
One of the following documents must be provided:
- University or Training Centre Acceptance Letter: Proof of enrolment in an authorized educational institution for full-time studies.
- Student Mobility Program Confirmation: Including proof of accommodation and financial sponsorship.
- Internship Agreement: Signed between the applicant and the organization, stating the internship duration and conditions.
- Volunteer Program Agreement: Signed agreement with the responsible organization in Spain.
Proof of Finance
Applicants must demonstrate financial means to cover living expenses in Spain.
- Minimum required funds: 100% of Spain’s Public Multiple Effects Income Indicator (IPREM).
- For family members accompanying the student:
- First family member: 75% of IPREM.
- Each additional family member: 50% of IPREM.
Accepted Proof of Financial Means:
- Scholarship Award Letter (if applicable).
- 6 months of stamped bank statements.
- UK Student Loan Certificate.
- Letter from the university covering tuition, accommodation, or meals.
- Notarized financial sponsorship letter (if funded by a parent/guardian) along with:
- Birth certificate proving relationship (officially translated and legalized).
- Sponsor’s bank statements (6 months, stamped by the bank).
- Sponsor’s employment letter detailing salary and role.
Health Insurance
- Comprehensive health insurance from an authorized Spanish provider, covering all risks covered by Spain’s public health system.
- UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) is accepted.
- Volunteers must provide additional Civil Liability Insurance.
Additional Documents (for stays over 180 days)
Criminal Record Certificate (For Applicants Aged 18+)
- Original and photocopy of a criminal record certificate from all countries where the applicant has resided in the past 5 years.
- UK applicants must provide an ACRO Certificate.
- Documents must be legalized or apostilled (except for EU-issued documents).
- If not in Spanish, an official translation must be provided.
Medical Certificate
- Original and photocopy of a medical certificate issued within 3 months before the application.
- Certificate must confirm that the applicant does not suffer from any serious public health diseases under the International Health Regulations (2005).
- Documents in English must be officially translated into Spanish.
- Certificates must be legalized or apostilled (except for EU-issued documents).
Documents for Minors (Under 18 Years)
Proof of Parent/Guardian Identity
- Copy of passport or ID of one parent or legal guardian.
- Proof of relationship (Birth Certificate).
Parental Consent for Travel to Spain
- Notarized parental authorization signed by both parents, stating the minor is permitted to study and reside in Spain.
- Must include the name of the guardian in Spain.
- Documents must be officially translated into Spanish and legalized/apostilled.
Documents for Family Members Accompanying the Student
For family members joining the student in Spain, the following additional documents are required:
- Visa application form, photo, passport, proof of UK residence.
- Marriage certificate (for spouses) or birth certificate (for children) proving kinship.
- Financial proof covering family members’ living expenses.
- Official translations into Spanish and legalization/apostille required for all civil status documents.
Special Categories
Language Assistants
- Official appointment letter from the Spanish Ministry of Education with details of the assigned school, salary, and health insurance.
- Language assistants do not need to submit financial proof or private health insurance if these are covered in their appointment letter.
Au-Pair Applicants (For Students)
- Must submit an Au-Pair agreement signed by both the host family and the applicant.
Long-Term Study Visa (More than 180 Days)
Once in Spain, applicants must:
- Apply for a Foreigner’s Identity Card (TIE) at the Immigration Office within one month of arrival.
Important Information
- Stapling documents is not permitted.
- All documents must be in English or Spanish. Translations into Spanish are only required if specifically requested.
- Visa approval is not guaranteed, and additional documents may be requested by the Consulate.
- All decisions regarding visa issuance, duration, and conditions are at the discretion of the Spanish Consulate General in London.
Photo Specifications
Applicants must submit one recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets the following requirements:
- Background: Taken against a plain, light-coloured background (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- Clarity & Focus: The photo must be of high quality, clear, and in sharp focus.
- Full Face Visible:
- The applicant must have a neutral expression (non-smiling).
- No sunglasses, hats, caps, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
- Printing Requirements:
- Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
- Must be glued to the visa application form (not stapled).
- Compliance Check:
- If the submitted photograph does not meet the above requirements, the application will be considered incomplete.
- The applicant may be required to take new photographs at a photo booth in the visa application centre.
