The Spain Self-Employed Work Visa is a long-term national visa that allows non-EU citizens to reside in Spain for more than 90 days and engage in self-employed (autónomo) work.

This visa is suitable for individuals who wish to:

  • Start or run a business in Spain.
  • Freelance or work as an independent contractor.
  • Engage in entrepreneurial or professional self-employed activities.

Applicants must obtain a residence and self-employment authorization before applying for the visa.

Processing Time

  • Applications submitted at the Spain Visa Application Centre are forwarded to the Spanish Consulate General in London on the next working day.
  • The initial residence and self-employment authorization is granted by the Delegation or Sub-delegation of the Government in Spain. The Consular Office will notify the applicant once the decision has been made.
  • After receiving authorization, applicants must submit a visa application within one month.
  • The standard processing time for a visa decision is 1 month from the day after submission.
  • Additional documents or an interview may be requested, which may extend the processing time.
  • The Spanish Consulate does not provide updates on application status or reasons for visa refusals via email.
