Overview

The Malta Business Visa allows non-EU nationals residing in the UK to travel to Malta and the Schengen Area for business-related purposes, such as attending meetings, conferences, training sessions, or negotiating deals. This visa is suitable for professionals visiting Malta at the invitation of a company or organisation.

Applicants must have a confirmed invitation from a business entity in Malta. Those attending a seminar, workshop, or conference organised by their employer or a business directly connected to their employer may also apply under this category.

If there is no formal business invitation, the applicant must apply under the Tourist visa category.

Eligibility

You may apply for a Malta Business Visa if you:

  • Hold a valid passport/travel document.
  • Hold a valid UK residence permit (not a C-type visitor visa).
  • Intend to stay in Malta or the Schengen Area for no more than 90 days within a 180-day period.
  • Are travelling for official business, meetings, training, or active participation in work-related events.

Processing Time

  • You can apply up to 6 months before your intended travel date.
  • The minimum processing time is 3 weeks.
  • Delays may occur during peak travel seasons (Easter, summer, Christmas) or due to additional document requests.
  • Applicants submitting from satellite centres (e.g., Manchester or Edinburgh) should allow 2 extra days for application transfer.
  • It is advised to apply early and ensure all documents meet the required standards.

Documents Required

All documents must be recent (dated within 30 days) unless otherwise specified. Originals must be presented at the appointment, but only photocopies need to be submitted unless stated.

Standard Documentation

Visa Application Form

  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form.

Passport

  • Original passport with at least 2 blank pages.
  • Must be valid for at least 90 days after return from the Schengen Area.
  • Issued within the last 10 years.
  • Include photocopies of previous Schengen visas issued in the past 3 years (if applicable).

UK Residency

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
  • Must be valid for at least 1 month beyond the return date.
  • C-type UK visitor visas are not accepted.

Photograph

  • One recent passport-size photo meeting standard Schengen photo specifications.

Supporting Documentation

Proof of Current Occupation

  • Employed: Original signed employer letter on company letterhead (dated within 30 days) stating job title, length of employment, and purpose of travel.
  • Self-Employed: Original signed letter from accountant, solicitor, or bank manager confirming business ownership and purpose of travel. Include Certificate of Incorporation from Companies House if applicable.

Proof of Business Invitation

  • Signed invitation letter from a business or organisation in Malta, confirming the purpose of the visit, dates, and who is covering accommodation/travel expenses (dated within 30 days).

Proof of Finance

  • Latest 3 months of UK bank statements showing name, address, and salary deposits (if employed).
  • Statements must be stamped by the bank branch.
  • A minimum balance of £48.00 per day of stay, plus any unpaid accommodation or travel costs, is required.
  • Travellers’ cheques are accepted.

Proof of Travel

  • Fully paid and confirmed flight tickets showing applicant’s name, travel dates, and E-ticket number.
  • If travelling by car: provide car registration, insurance, return travel booking, and driver’s licence.
  • If not the driver: include a signed cover letter from the driver confirming joint travel.

Proof of Accommodation

  • Hotel or rental reservation confirming name, travel dates, and address.
  • If not booked in applicant’s name: joint travel confirmation letter + copy of the booker’s ID/passport.
  • Group bookings must include a full list of travellers.

Travel Insurance

  • Valid all-risk medical travel insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000.
  • Must cover the entire Schengen Area and the entire travel period.
  • Only policies from UK-registered providers are accepted.
  • For multiple trips, ensure multi-trip coverage (not single-trip).

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets the following requirements:

Background

  • Taken against a light-coloured background (white or off-white)
  • Facial features must be clearly visible with contrast against the background

Quality & Composition

  • High resolution with the face in clear focus
  • Full face visible:
    • Neutral expression (non-smiling)
    • No sunglasses or tinted lenses
    • No hats, caps, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or ethnic reasons

Format

  • Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print only)
  • Photograph must be securely attached (glued) to the visa application form

Important
If the photograph does not meet the above specifications, the application will be deemed incomplete, and the applicant may be asked to retake the photo at the application centre.
