How It Works

• Book Your Appointment:
  • Schedule an appointment at the appropriate Embassy, Consulate General, or Honorary Consul’s office.
• Prepare Your Documents:
  • Use our detailed checklist to gather all required documents.
• Attend Your Appointment:
  • Present yourself in person for identification, biometric data capture, and document verification.
• Processing & Delivery:
  • Your application is processed by the relevant authorities. Once approved, your new passport or ID card is sent to you by courier.
• Ongoing Support:
  • We provide continuous support and updates throughout the process.

Documents Required

For First-Time Applicants

• Completed passport application form
• Original Maltese birth certificate or certificate of citizenship
• Valid photo ID (e.g. identity card or previous passport)
• Two recent passport-sized photographs
• Proof of address (e.g. utility bill or tenancy agreement)
• Any other supporting documents as requested by the consulate

For Passport Renewal

• Completed renewal form
• Current/expired Maltese passport
• Two recent passport-sized photographs
• Any updated supporting documentation (e.g. name change certificate, marriage certificate)
• Proof of address

For Minors

• Birth certificate of the child
• Valid passports or ID cards of both parents
• Signed parental consent form
• Two recent passport-sized photographs of the child
• Proof of legal guardianship (if applicable)

Important Information

• All passports issued are biometric (ePassports) with embedded security features
• Fingerprints are required for applicants aged 12 and above
• Photographs must follow ICAO standards – digital editing or filters are not permitted
• Passports are issued at the discretion of the Malta Passport Office; incomplete or incorrect applications may lead to delays
• In-person appointments are required for biometric capture and identity verification
• Applications may take longer during peak periods – apply early if planning travel
